Sobe No Fear/Xcel Pro kicks off North Shore winter season

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 October 2004: - - Sunset Beach, Hawaii- The 21st Annual Xcel Pro is set to commence this Wednesday at Sunset Beach as the winter season approaches the north shore of Oahu. Although no big swells appear on the forecast charts, anything could happen as the two week waiting period begins. American based beverage company Sobe No, presents the event this year knowing the importance of surfing especially during big wave season and in real waves.

Along with the $50,000.00 Association of Surfing Professionals World Qualifying Series event, a specialty longboard heat featuring the top Hawaiians and previous world champions will be held during the final day of competition. The $2000.00 “Lei Lei’s Restaurant at Turtle Bay Longboard Session” will give local world champions Rusty Keaulana, Bonga Perkins, Dino Miranda along with current title holder Joel Tudor a chance to display big wave riding skills. Haleiwa resident Kanoa Dahlin, Lance Hookano and Kapono Nahina, recent winner of the Steinlager Pro Series round out the seven man heat.
