Margaret River Boardriders Continue Surftag Dominance
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, Sydney, January 24, 2005 – Margaret River Boardriders have again finished first and second in the WA qualifying round of the 2005 Jim Beam National Surftag Series.
Held in solid five feet waves at Yallingup, the Margaret River surfers repeated what they have done over the past two years by claiming the top two spots with both teams now heading to Sydney to compete in the National Grand Final. Yallingup Boardriders finished a close third with Cottesloe finishing in fourth.
Standouts for the Margaret Rivers “A” team where Andrew Sheridan (20.3 for his two rides) and Jake Jakovich (23.2), with Mick Short (19.6) and Sam Castledon (12.9) doing the job for the “B” team. In an amazing display of Club depth the Margaret River “A” team won the Final with ease finishing with 85.9 points. The “B” team racked up 64.2 with Yallingup scoring 56.7 and Cottesloe 53.2. Margaret River received $1000 for the win as well as $600 for second.
The Yallingup team looked good for a top two finish midway through the one-hour final due to Sam Hanson scoring 20.3 but with time running out Pete Cannon was unable to catch his second and final wave leaving the crew from Margies in first and second. Yallingup won $500 for finishing in third position with Cottesloe taking home $400.
The day belonged to Andrew Sheridan who won a $1000 BOSE sound system for posting the highest Powerwave of the event, an 8.6 in Semi Final No.1, Sheridan also received a G-SHOCK watch for being the club’s best performer in the Semi’s.
Perth Club Scarborough finished in fifth position with Trigg sixth, City Beach seventh and Contacio eighth.
Margaret Rivers “A” team included Brett Hardy, Dave Chick, Chris Ross, Jakovich and Sheridan with the “B” being made up by Kristin Innes, Dave Englert, Jade Parker, Short and Castledon.
