Perfect Surf for East London GromSearch Finals
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, April 17, 2005 - - Perfect 1.5-metre (4ft) surf with light winds and sunny skies provided the perfect stage for East London’s top juniors to battle out the second Rip Curl GromSearch event of 2005. The excellent conditions made a welcome change to the stormy Cape Town surf a week ago which halted the Western Province leg of the nationwide tour.
Port Elizabeth’s Justin Grey took top honours in the U16 boy’s final sealing an impressive victory and a place in the Rip Curl Grand Final held in Durban later in the year. Winner of the 2005 International Rip Curl GromSearch at Bells Beach, Nikita Robb, surfed to a well earned victory at her home break.
St Francis surfers Nicolas Godfrey and Dane Staples were in a league of their own outclassing rivals in the U14 and U12 divisions respectively.
The top two under 16 boys and top two under 16 girls from each of the eight Rip Curl GromSearch events automatically qualify to compete in the Grand Final held in Durban on November 26 & 27. At this event an all expenses paid ticket to compete at Bells Beach in Easter 2006 will be at stake for the U16 boy and girl winners.
The remaining Rip Curl GromSearch contests take place at St Michael’s beach on the KZN south coast on June 4 & 5, Ballito on the Natal north coast on June 11 & 12, Mossel Bay on 2 & 3 July, Point in Jeffreys Bay on 30 & 31 July, Boland on October 8 & 9 and Durban on October 29 & 30.
