Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast gearing up for 28 February kick-off.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 February, 2006 : - - Now in its fifth year, the Quiksilver Pro based at Snapper Rocks on Queensland’s Gold Coast, has become one of the most anticipated and revered contests on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour. The world’s best surfers, the Gold Coast’s famous weather and nightlife, plus some of the most perfect waves on the planet have helped make this event like no other.

First place walks away with US$30,000, 1200 WCT ratings points and an all-important lead in the race for the men’s world title. The winner will also join an elite group of champions whose performances have contributed to some of the most memorable and emotionally charged moments in professional surfing history.

The famed point breaks of Snapper Rocks, Kirra or Burleigh are the preferred venues but the event can go mobile for the best waves anywhere from Stradbroke Island in the north to Duranbah beach, just over the NSW border, in the south. Previous winners include Mick Fanning (Qld, Aus) 2005, Mick Lowe (NSW, AUS) 2004, Dean Morrison (Qld, AUS) 2003, Joel Parkinson (Qld, AUS) 2002 and Taj Burrow (WA, AUS) 2001.

The Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast will be run in conjunction with the women’s opening 2006 WCT event, the Roxy Pro presented by Samsung and the final of the Quiksilver Core Store Surf Challenge.
