Roxy Pro ready to rock the Gold Coast

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 February, 2006 : - - Welcome to the Gold Coast of Australia, one of the best places on earth. The World Championship Tour kicks off here with the Roxy Pro presented by Samsung February 28 – March 12, 2006. The beach will be packed with the all of your favorite pros like Chelsea Georgeson, Sofia Mulanovich and Megan Abubo as they battle wave by wave for a USD$65,000 prize purse with $10,000 of it going to first place.

The Gold Coast event is the first event of the year and the Roxy Pro shares a holding period with the Quiksilver Pro, so the surfing at Snapper Rocks will be insane. Plus, if you are able to make it down to the even you must, between the world class surfing and everything going on at the beach you will have an amazing time.

Since she was the winner at the 2005 Roxy Pro Gold Coast event, local trialist Stephanie Gilmore has earned the right to defend her title and has received a direct seed into the main event. Therefore no trials will be surfed.

Again this year Evian is awarding AUD$5,000 for the “Evian Longest Tuberide” to the surfer who gets the longest tube ride (mens and womens).

THE FACTS:

LOCATION: World Famous super bank Snapper Rocks is the preferred contest site, but the event can go ‘mobile’ for the best possible waves between neighbouring Duranbah, NSW in the South to Stradbroke Island, Qld in the North. Greenmount, Kirra, Duranbah and Burleigh Heads are the most likely back-up venues.

PRIZE PURSE: US$65,000

FEATURING: world’s top 17 full-time touring female professional surfers plus one wildcard

WAITING PERIOD: February 28 – March 12, 2006

FORMAT: Six, three woman non-elimination round one heats. 1st and 2nd advance to round three. 3rd place advances to round two. 3rd place in round two is eliminated. Roud three through the finals are woman-on-woman elimination heats.
