North Shore Tow-In Surfing Championships
Association Professional Towsurfers Avalanche and Puaena Point, Oahu Hawaii 15 December - 31 March 2007
3rd Annual Bank of Hawaii North Shore Tow-In Surfing Champs Could Go As Early As Next Week
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 December, 2006 : - - Contest officials are monitoring a series of swells that could produce surf large enough to hold the Bank of Hawaii North Shore Tow-In Event as early as the first week in 07'. However due to the associated shear line of bad weather and questionable size associated with the start of the series of swells, the contest will remain on RED status, NO GO.
When contest officials feel there is a worthy swell of a solid 20'-25' bouy reading in the forecast, they will go to yellow alert status which means, standby. Once contest promoters call the event, they will go to a green light 72 hour notice that the contest is a go.
At this point, all national and international competitors that are not already in Hawaii, will have to scramble their way over for what will be one of the most competitive tow-in events ever held. For updated information and event status, visit ProTowSurfers.org
This year's event will take place “One Day Only” on the biggest and best day of surf between December 15, 2006 and March 31, 2007. The big wave tow-in surf contest is set to take place on one of the two main big wave outer reef spots over a mile outside of Haleiwa Harbor known as Outside Avalanche and Outside Puaena Point.
The event is sanctioned by the APT and carries a prize purse of $25,000. The top winning tow-in teams will receive the lion's share of the loot and both of the tow-in team partners will get matching trophies.
All competitors of the North Shore Tow-In Event will be battling for limited slots to compete in the Mexico and Chile events sanctioned by APT and scheduled for 2007. Those competitors that do not make it in the top winning bracket will end up competing in an Open World Qualifying event set to take place at Pier 1 on Maui, HI in early 2007.
