Billabong Occ Stock & Barrels locked and loaded for Cronulla
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 November, 2009 : - - Maroubra, NSW – Tuesday, 27 October 2009): 1999 World Surfing Champion and ex shire local Mark “Occy” Occhilupo will return home on the 21-22 November to host the first ever Occ Stock and Barrels surfing event. With three divisions including U/16 boys and girls plus an U/13 boy’s division for the micro groms, Occ Stock and Barrels will be run over two days at the Alley depending on conditions. The event is only open to young surfers who live between Bondi and the Illawarra region, providing a great opportunity for local rippers to showcase their surfing ability. Winners of each of the three divisions will have a rare chance to surf a grand final heat alongside Occy, a once in a lifetime opportunity. “I have always had such a close relationship with Cronulla, Kurnell and the entire region,” said Occhilupo. “I spent my childhood roaming the beaches, surfing everyday after school and doing surf trips down the coast to the national park.” “I have been running Occy grom comps with Billabong for about five years now and I was really excited when they told me about doing one in the shire.” There are limited positions of 32 in each division and spots are filling fast with over 55 entries in total to date. With loads of Billabong and Sony prizes up for grabs, the Occ Stock and Barrels event is sure to stoke out any grom who tries his luck. Shire locals will also have the opportunity to meet and greet Occy at a special in store appearance and signing session at Cronulla Surf Design at 1pm, Saturday 21st November in the Cronulla Mall. Prior to the signing session there will be a concert from 12-1pm on the Pavilion Stage by band Autumn for Kings. The following day on Sunday 22nd there will be another concert at the same time and place by FisherKing.
