Reef takes a new direction for Miss Reef 2013 Calendar shoot

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 November, 2012 : - - Sitting isolated in the Pacific Ocean, some 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, are the mysterious Galapagos. We chose these "Enchanted Islands" to host the 2013 Miss Reef Calendar shoot. For generations, this rich archipelago has been celebrated for what it has to teach us about the natural world -- countless species in the wild, from the woodlands to sky and sea.

2013 marks the fourth installment of a five-year series shot entirely in Latin America, our effort to move back to the roots of the Reef brand. And the Galapagos, with their rich ecology, was the perfect place for the ladies to explore.

This installment in particular is a contemporary take on Miss Reef. It hints at a new creative heading with thoughtful art direction. Shot partially with traditional film and keeping the rich ecology and culture in mind, the result is a refreshing take on a longstanding Reef tradition.

Noted California photographer Chris Straley and Reef Creative director, Mark Tesi, were tasked with the assignment of capturing the true essence of the Galapagos juxtaposed with the Miss Reef sensuality. With an artful eye, they captured the best of San Cristobal’s pristine landscapes, captivating coastline, and charming villages.

Our team was tasked with the assignment of capturing the true essence of the Galapagos juxtaposed with the Miss Reef sensuality. We feel they captured the best of San Cristobal's pristine landscapes and charming villages. The 2013 Miss Reef Calendar is dedicated to the welcoming people of Ecuador, particularly the Galápagos and San Cristobal, for their warm hospitality and enthusiasm in collaboration on this project.

Miss Reef has been a global icon in the surfing community for the past 25 years, and the calendar is a celebration of her, as well as the rich Latin American heritage of the brand. The recent series has included Brazil, Panama, and Puerto Rico.
