Davey and Benji Brand explore Angola in artful clip by Dan Mace
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 September, 2013 : - - My brother and I recently went on a trip to Angola with our good mate Dan Mace, who films and edits amazing clips for us. He’s very talented and we are eagerly anticipating what he has to share about our trip.
The country was hectic. We got into some pretty scary situations but are glad to be back after what turned out to be an amazing trip. You can see that the country has been torn apart by the war which ended only a couple years ago. It is slowly trying to get back onto its feet but it clearly isn’t easy. We had never seen such poverty like this before.
We had so many issues getting there, I reckon we could make a 400 page book just about the problems we faced while we were there and it would seem like an action-thriller. One night, Dan and I were driving back to the lodge which is 73 km deep into the desert. We got lost for 4 and a half hours and all we had was a compass on an iPhone and half a tank of petrol. It was pretty scary, and nothing came easily!
I felt like the trip definitely grew me as a person and opened my eyes to some parts of the world. I’m definitely new at dealing with all the hype that has been created around this trip but I’m learning as I go along.
Thanks and have a nice day, Davey.
