Northwest shapers & artists collaborate for a good cause

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 September, 2013 : - - On Oct 3rd, 2013, surf nonprofits Warm Current and WAVES for Development (WAVES) will host the 2nd annual Shaping the NW event in Portland, OR, a celebration of NW surfboard shapers and artists.

Join surfboard shapers, philanthropists, environmentalists and surfers at 525 NW 10th Ave in the Pearl District for an evening of refreshing fun, as we celebrate the art of hand-crafted NW surfboard shapers and artists from around the globe.

Danner Boots, as the premium sponsor, is critical to making the event happen through their newly opened Union Way store.

Fantastic prizes will be raffled off from other generous sponsors, including gear and apparel from Cleanline Surf Shop, Gerber, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, ReRack, Seaside Surf Shop, Sundippers, The Clymb, and Woolrich!  Design and poster printing done by The Department of Awesome and Oregon Blue Print, respectively.

All proceeds will benefit Warm Current’s activities including surf camps in Oregon and Washington as well as WAVES’ Surf Voluntourism and Education programs in northern Peru.

WAVES and Warm Current were created to link passion with purpose; they aim to bridge the educational and economic gap between wealthy surfers and members of rural coastal communities, especially youth.

In the past year, staff and volunteers have enriched the lives over 300 coastal community residents in the Pacific NW and Northern Peru through the various programs.

Event attendees will be treated to music, a silent auction and raffle, snacks by KIND and visuals by Brian Tobin photography. Ice cold Sierra Nevada will quench the thirstiest of attendees. $10 donation at the door. Refreshments provided by Tamale Boy and KIND snacks.
