Costa Rican talent takes both Open & Junior titles | español
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 November, 2013: --Punta de Lobos, Chile - Young Costa Rican talent Noe Mar McGonagle claimed both the Open and Junior titles in the Reef Classic Latin Pro Chile last week. True to his radical and aggressive style, McGonagle was able to claim double trophies in the powerful lefts of Punta de Lobos.
Anali Gomez (Peru) won the women's division, and Alex Cunha (Brazil) was crowned in the longboard division.
McGonagle's friend Anthony Fillingim achieved the same feat in Mexico. An ecstactic McGonagle said, "Actually my goal was to come to this event and title fight Junior ALAS. I did not imagine winning the Open and Junior. Thank God I did and I am very happy to leave Costa Rica with a historic victory."
"I'm extremely happy. Mexico Anthony won in two categories and was my inspiration. Today I did it myself. I will continue the tour. Tomorrow I travel to Nicaragua to continue climbing in Open," McGonagle continued.
In the Open final it was McGonagle against Francisco Bellorin, who were both crowned ALAS 2013 Junior and Open Champions respectively, but sought one more title in the circuit. McGonagle would put together two solid scores to best the Venezuelan for the Open title. In the Junior final, with an 11.87 total score, McGonagle defeated Tomas Villegas in a tight battle.
