2004 Tow-in World Cup officially cancelled due to inadequate surf
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, March 15, 2004 (Honolulu, HAWAII) With 18 teams and 6 alternates teams waiting patiently to participate in this year´s Tow-in World Cup on Maui, mothernature didn´t unleash her powers to the fullest extent needed for this extreme surfing event.
There had been a few hopeful storms that generated substantial lows in the northwestern hemisphere, but as the swells hit the Hawaiian islands the face value of the waves did not quite reach the 50 foot criteria that contest directors hoped for. With unusually wet and stormy weather this year, organizers also had to contend with wind and rain and it´s effect on the surf.
The Tow-in World Cup is a specialty invitational event that relies on nature to provide us with unusually large surf, sunny weather and favorable winds. These three factors did not come together to allow this years event to take place. We will wait in anticipation for start of next year´s event in 2005.
