NBC Sports to Broadcast The 2004/2005 Mavericks Surf Contest™
Television Network on Contest Surfing Big-Wave First-Ever

Half Moon Bay, CA - Mavericks Surf Ventures, in association with Bolt Media, announced today that NBC Sports will broadcast this season's edition of the world-famous Mavericks Surf Contest™ on April 24, 2005 at 4pm ET. Crowned "the Super Bowl of big-wave surfing" by Sports Illustrated, The 2004/2005 Mavericks Surf Contest™ will take place on 24 hours' notice any day before March 31, and the historic NBC Sports broadcast will mark big-wave surfing's network television premiere.
Mavericks, a world-renowned big-wave spot located one-half mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California, has played host to three historic big-wave surfing contests. Last season, 15,000 spectators and two million television viewers experienced the event. This year, the best big-wave riders on the planet will return to the spot known for waves that have crested over 60 feet, frigid waters, dangerous currents, jagged rocks and the ever-present threat of the Great White Shark. Heralded as the "Holy of Holies" by the San Francisco Chronicle, this year's $75,000 contest will be broadcast for the very first time on NBC Sports, a division of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies. Major broadcast sponsors include Coca-Cola, Verizon Wireless and Jeep.
