John Mac Carthy and Roger Gale win the Mananan Big Wave Challenge

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 April, 2006 : - - Is this the Biggest Irish wave ever surfed? Last Saturday night in the Retro Bar John Mac Carthy and Roger Gale were crowned as the Kings of the Mananan Big Wave Challenge. Congratulations to John and Roger and all the other competitiors who entered the Challenge. John was the surfer and Roger is the Cameraman. What a picture!

The Mananan Surf and Music Festival was outstanding this year. Rosy and his crew including Keith(Irelands Jack Johnson) rocked the Retro Bar. The music was certainly original and everyone had a blast. Saturday the Troggs Irish Nationals were held and finished in big onshore conditions. Congrats to all the winners.

Saturday night was mental!

Elvis's abounded and Schoolgirls were everywhere! Surfchix really got the crowd going with their great mix of music. This is only the second year of the Challenge and we look forward to many more years of deserving winners.

If you missed this festival then keep the first weekend of October free. Venue to be decided!

Finally well done to the winners John and Roger and thanks to everyone who travelled to Portrush for the weekend.

Will there be a Big wave Challenge for the Ladies next year?.........
