O’Neill Surfing Raw Courage Big Wave Winners Will Be Announced On 20 May
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 April, 2008 : - - O’Neill South Africa’s Raw Courage Big Wave Awards is getting ready to break out the champagne and crown winners of the various prestigious awards, as the year’s entries draw to a close on the 20th of May. This is a first ever for South Africa to have held this type of event, and it will be the first time ever, that an awards ceremony of this nature will be held out in the ocean in South Africa.
Chris Bertish-O’Neill South Africa Brand Manager adds: “I am very impressed with the standard and level of big wave surfing we have seen coming out of our South African big wave contingent over the last twelve months for this unique event.
We have seen entries coming in from waves of serious consequence locally, from spots like Sunset and Dungeons, as well as entries from our local charges pushing the boundaries from as far abroad, as Mexico, Ireland and distant offshore reefs like the Cortez bank off the California coastline.”
The event awards presentation will take place in the ocean making the O’Neill Raw Courage Awards even more unique, staying in touch with the core roots of the brand and the cold water elements as nature is one of the key cornerstones of the brand and also enabling this event to take place. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 25th May, 4pm onwards, off Kommetjie, in Cape Town.
The Raw Courage award-Biggest paddle wave has been hotly contested, with huge paddle waves coming in from big wave chargers like Mike Schlebach, Mickey Duffus, Andy Marr to name just a few.
The biggest wave entries have been coming in from huge sessions charged off Dungeons and Sunset locally in Cape Town by Mike Schlebach, Andy Marr and Jason Ribbink as well as entries coming in from mind blowing sessions from Duncan Scott surfing in Ireland.
