Amber alert notice for APT/Punta de Lobos Chile event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 May, 2008 : - - The Association of Professional Towsurfers, Inc. (APT) is proud to announce that the Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu Chile World Cup Tow-In Surfing Championship presented by Movistar and Sony Ericson has officially gone into an AMBER ALERT status.

With a series of major storms setting up in the southern hemisphere, event organizers will remain in AMBER ALERT status until they make the call on which swell will produce the biggest waves and best conditions for this event.

Event organizers and competitors, along with officials from Surfline.com the official forecaster for this event, are closely monitoring a series of very large swells that could develop into the perfect storm by late next week. Be informed though, as quickly as these storms can develop and look amazing, they can also downgrade just as fast. Regardless, event organizers plan on making the final call by Monday June 2nd.

Once and only when the green light is called, the competitors and global media will be given a four day advance notice to make the long journey to the event location known as Punta de Lobos in Chile, South America to the small and beautiful town of Pichilemu.

This will be the first stop for the 2nd Annual 2008/2009 APT World Tour Tow-In Season and it is anticipated that this event will set the stage for  the entire tour and the future of professional competitive tow-in surfing. Along with the main tow-in event, there will be a big wave traditional surfing contest to be held at the same location during the same swell. In total, there will be $35,000.00 in prize money to be handed out.

Along with prize purse money, Mike Slattery of HighSurfRescue.com (HSA) will sponsor additional prizes by giving away a rescue board to the winning first place team and tow-in equipment for 2nd and 3rd place teams. Media outlets from around the globe are invited and encouraged to show up and document this first of a kind, specialty event that will host to a big wave tow-in contest and big wave surfing contest.
