Lynette MacKenzie wins SunSmart World Series event

In an exciting final, number one seeded surfer Lynette MacKenzie out performed her younger rivals to win the SunSmart Womens World Series held in excellent one metre clean offshore waves at Woolami Beach Phillip Island.

Mac Kenzie 27 year old from Maroubra,Sydney notched up a strong heat tally of 21.50 points out of 30 to narrowly win the finals from number two seed Chelsea Georgeson from Avalon, Sydney.It was a jubilant win for MacKenzie, a World Tour veteran."I have´nt won an event for a long time so this is a huge confidence booster for me.I had a good heat and I selected some good fun waves´".She said.MacKenzie posted three good rides 7.75,7.0 and 6.75.

Georgeson, current World Grommet Champion at 18 and who has recently qualified for the World tour showed a great deal of confidence and power in her surfing to be Mac Kenzies biggest threat in the finals.She opened with the highest wave score of 8.35 but was unable to consolidate her tally recording a 6.75 and a 5.25 with a total of 20.35 points.

Seventeen year old Rebecca Woods from Avoca came in third with a wave tally of 18.35. Woods had a solid run to the finals but could not find the set waves.Kim Woolridge Woollongong,a seasoned World Series campaigner finished fourth.Woolridge also posted an excellent ride of 8.25 but was unlucky with poor wave selection and a fall on a crucial wave leaving her with low scores of 3.75 a 3.00 and a total of 15.10.

The next event for the Womens World tour is the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast in March.
