Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 October, 2010 : - - Santander -- The Quiksilver La Vaca Gigante (The Giant Cow) competition is back. One of Spain's most closely watched big-wave surfing event is approaching, and it's more GIANT than ever:

GIANT waves…
Because for the competition to take place the waves must reach at least fifteen feet (5 meters) of height. Giant waves in one of the most dangerous and powerful reef breaks of the Cantabrian Sea: "La Vaca" ("The Cow"). Its enormous body of water, its dangerous reef, the strong currents in the area and the proximity of the cliff are only some of the innumerable elements that will make surfers think twice before defying it.

Surfers of GIANT fame…
Because the list of contestants – limited to 16 surfers – will feature names belonging to the international élite of big-wave surfing. They'll need giant courage to face up to this spectacular challenge, privilege of a select few: riding the biggest wave of a furious twenty-feet "Cow". A good physical condition, experience and knowledge of the spot are important factors in the selection of the 16 brave surfers.

GIANT prizes…
Because 10,000 euros in prize money turn the event into the most important big-wave surfing contest in Spain. A huge pot for an awesome challenge combining excitement and danger, and with a massive partnership effort by Quiksilver.

A GIANT enterprise…
Because the event will be announced only previous 72 hours to the competition, when the forecast promises ideal wave conditions that meet the contest's requirements of size and quality. The local Tow-In surf center and the Cantabrian Surfing Federation are required to coordinate their work to perfection in view of the enormous media attention the event will attract. Moreover, the collaboration of the city of Santander is fundamental at this point.

The time window for the Quiksilver La Vaca Gigante IV competition will be open from 1 November 2010 to 31 March 2011.
The final list of contestants will be confirmed over the next weeks.
