Le-Ba team wins Stagg Chilli Surftag at Duranbah Qld

Le-BA Team wins Stagg Chilli Surftag
Young Le-Ba (Lennox/Ballina) team takes out STAGG™ Chilli Surftag Queensland round
Collecting the $1000 first prize new Le-Ba President Jonathon Hewitt was wrapped in the performance of his charges, Le-Ba performing solidly all day in one metre fun peaks at Duranbah beach, to narrowly outpoint strong finishing Snapper Rocks, the only Gold Coast club to make the final, with Byron Bays 2nd team 3rd, and Noosa 4th.
With strong surfing from Joe Hudson, Mark Hernage setting the platform for the Le-Ba club the other teams were playing catch-up from early in the match. Snapper Rocks who were in 4th place after 3 surfers, came back strongly to be only 3 points behind Le-Ba at the end of the 1 hour match, with a team loaded with up and coming juniors like Jai Boyce, Luke Dorrington, Dean Harrington. Noosa ran out of steam after winning every match leading up to the final, with the ever consistent Byron Bay team not picking the right waves and being relegated to 3rd place.
MNM surfer Darren Turner picked up a $1000 Bose sound system for the highest scoring power wave of the event, scoring a 9.0 in the 2nd heat of the day.
The STAGG™ Chilli Surf Tag now moves to the Victorian qualifying round. All four finalists from the Queensland round have booked a berth in the national final at Manly Beach on the 7th of December where $20,000 is up for grabs.
