Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 July, 2012 : - - The Nike Block Series continued its Under-20 grassroots surf tour, hitting the beautiful Cantabrian coast and the renowned beachbreaks of Somo for the fifth event and last qualification competition before the Block Series Final.

Greeted with clean consistent one-metre surf, competitors from all categories including Super Grom (Under-12), Grom (Under-17) and Junior (Under-20) added their talent and surf skills to the already action-packed past four weeks that saw youngsters from Sopelana, Hossegor, Zarautz and Biarritz do battle in style.

With several surfs throughout the day due to the non-elimination Round-Robin format, all attendees were able to improve and better their performance heat after heat, for another great moment of competition, friendship and sport.

And as the day ended, it was Santander natives Néstor GARCÍA, Gonzalo GUTIÉRREZ and Luis ANSIN who came out on top of the hungry pack, all three filling-in the last three qualification spots for the Nike Block Series Final.

With the outgoing tide allowing for hollower and faster wave sections, the level rose heat after heat, the Junior division offering the summer weekend crowds a spectacular performance with surfers pushing each other’s level towards the coveted win and Block Series Finals’ ticket. Last stop of five qualification events towards the Block Series Final set to run on August 24, 2012, Somo added another great moment to Nike's new grassroots competition series, wrapping-up phase one in great style.
