Hamilton and Hunter Dominate Day One

Pristine conditions continued for the second and final day of the 7th Annual Rip Curl Wahine Classic at Kuhio Beach, Waikiki today.

Clean open face one foot waves greeted competitors at sunup on America´s father day with Queens reef again the location.

Competing in front of the historic Duke Kahanomoku statue, the cultural birthpace of modern day surfing, the girls took to the small surf with passion and power, romancing a show of contemporary girls shortboard and longboard surfing.

With many girls surfing in 2-3 divisions, and hanging with family and friends on the beach, Hawaiian serenity was free and flowing. Local entertainment and a City regulated "brunch on the beach" ensured a healthy crowd of 6,000-7,000 thousand people and a constant flow of tourist traffic.

The Wahine Classic has grown three fold in it´s seven year history, and is now the biggest girls surfing event in the USA, this year with seven countries represented.

While the event focus was all about fun and participation, come finals time today the level of surfing was inspiring, with ten year old Waialae local Carissa Moore the standout.

Surfing beyond her years pint sized Carissa took a clean treble winning the Shortboard Pee Wee Final, the Longboard Pee Wee Final, and the Bodyboard Pee Wee Final, to the acclaimation of her peers.
