Red Bull Big Wave Africa: Giant Waves For Dungeons On Monday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 June, 2007 : - - Two weeks into the three-month waiting period and the big wave spot called Dungeons is waking from her long, summer-long slumber. The charts are all screaming one enormous swell for Monday, with this swell being the first legitimate solid swell of the year.

Behind this giant swell is a whole lot more action. There are two storms behind Monday's swell, and it is looking like an extended period of possibilities over the whole of next week. As one swell starts to slowly recede so the next swell races in behind to deliver another push of serious swell, in the wave heights that are required to run the event.

At this stage it is difficult to say exactly what day is going to be the best day for the contest to run, but the storms are being tracked and Spike, the official wave forecaster for the event, is confident of some exciting sessions next week. Monday is looking like it might be a giant, out-of-control and unrideable swell at this stage. Possibly Tuesday, possibly the next swell after that.

There are so many swells coming that it is quite difficult to pinpoint the best window at this stage. Either way, some of the biggest waves in Africa and the world are going to be ridden underneath the shadow of The Sentinel next week. On those days when the conditions are deemed not suitable for the event to run will be official practice days, with full safety teams in place.

The contest organisers are looking at making a call tomorrow morning (16 June). Once the call has been made, athletes will be notified and will need to start making their way to Cape Town.There is a huge amount of excitement amongst the local and international big wave surfing fraternity, and everyone is already on stand-by.
