APT/Chile, Punta de Lobos Tow-In Event officially goes to GREEN LIGHT STATUS
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 October, 2008 : - - The Association of Professional Towsurfers, Inc. (APT) is proud to announce that the Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu Chile World Cup Tow-In Surfing Championship has officially gone to a GREEN LIGHT status for this Saturday, October 25th, and just in time before the holding period comes to a final close at the end of the month.
Event officials are stating that the surf forecast should be in the 30'-35' face height range with the possibility of a larger swell around the 27th.
HERE IS THE EVENT SCHEDULE:
Wednesday-Friday October 22-24, all competitors arrive in Pichilemu, Chile, (Punta de Lobos)
Friday night October 24th, - Competitors Meeting at 'Duna Mar' Hotel 6:00 P.M
Saturday October 25th, - Tow-In Event
& Awards Party
“It is our goal to utilize this last week with the great conditions that we now have here in Chile. With two big swells coming we will have good options for the tow-in, SUP and surfing events. It will be like a week long surf festival with lots of excitement, local support and international media.” Flecha Escobar-APT’s Chile Event Logistic Manager
If the tow-in swell downgrades the event officials will still be holding an open SUP Surfing event and open Surfing event in place of the main tow-in event. Both events would have a 10K purse.
This will be the first stop for the 2nd Annual 2008/2009 APT World Tour Tow-In Season and it is anticipated that this event will set the stage for the entire tour and the future of professional competitive towsurfing.
Along with prize purse money, Mike Slattery of HighSurfRescue.com (HSA) will sponsor additional prizes by giving away a rescue board to the winning first place team and tow-in equipment for 2nd and 3rd place teams.
Competitors for this world-class event will consist of the top eight rated teams from the 2007 APT season along with Chile representation and professionally established big wave riders from Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti, Mexico, California, Brazil and Ireland.
Media outlets from around the globe are invited and encouraged to show up and document this first of a kind, specialty event that will host to a big wave tow-in contest, SUP and big wave surfing contest.
