Mavericks Announces Unique Partnership with Airship Ventures

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 January, 2009 : - - Half Moon Bay -- Mavericks Surf Ventures, Inc. (Mavericks) today announced that fans of The 2009 Mavericks Surf Contest® will have the unique opportunity to view this year’s event from the world’s largest airship—Airship Ventures Zeppelin 'Eureka.'

Recently launched in the San Francisco Bay Area, the “Eureka” is a 246-foot airship that accommodates twelve guests per trip.  Weather-permitting, “Eureka” will run passenger trips in the sky throughout 2009 Contest Day from Half Moon Bay Airport.  Mavericks and Airship Ventures will launch a “maiden Mavericks voyage” from Moffett Field tomorrow, Friday, January 16 at 9 a.m., carrying Contest surfers and guests over Mavericks for the first bird’s eye view.

“We’re constantly looking for novel ways to offer Mavericks fans unique experiences,” commented Mavericks Surf Ventures CEO Keir J. Beadling.  “Our official boat tours have always been very popular, and now Airship Ventures is allowing us to bring that experience to the next level.”

“Airship Ventures is thrilled to partner with Mavericks and offer a once-in-a-lifetime ‘flight-seeing’ experience of this iconic Bay Area phenomenon,” said Airship Ventures CEO Alex Hall.  “We can’t wait to see the view of the world’s most dangerous wave from the windows of the world’s largest airship!”

The spacious cabin comfortably accommodates the pilot, flight attendant, and up to 12 passengers with luxury features including oversized panoramic windows, an onboard restroom with window, and a unique 180-degree rear observation window and “love seat” that wraps the entire aft end of the cabin.  More details are available at airshipventures.com or by calling Airship Ventures at (650) 969-8100, ext. 111.

About Mavericks™ and The Mavericks Surf Contest®
Every winter season, Mother Nature offers up the ocean’s harshest conditions and the giant, unpredictable waves that characterize Mavericks and the annual Mavericks Surf Contest®.  Frigid waters, dangerous currents, jagged rocks and the ever-present threat of the great white shark. Mix these with perfect weather conditions, and 24 chosen surfers will get the contest call from legendary big-wave surf pioneer and Contest Director, Jeff Clark. When they do, they will have only 24 hours to arrive in Half Moon Bay to face the extreme conditions, thunderous waves and each other.

Coined as "the wave beyond," the Mavericks™ brand inspires hardcore athletes to face the unpredictably raw power of Mother Nature, and stirs the souls of those who aspire to challenge their own limits. Mavericks remains true to its core: a cold, mysterious and foreboding place that demands respect from everyone who goes there and inspires them to attempt the extraordinary.  2009 Contest sponsors include Jim Beam® Bourbon, Moose Guen and Jane Sutherland of MVision, Barracuda Networks Inc., Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., CLIF BAR & Co., the Bay Club, The Corporate Law Group, Rickshaw Bagworks, Airship Ventures, Vertical Response, Surfer Magazine, Sam’s Chowder House, Stormsurf.com, Capture Technologies, Doc’s ProPlugs, Jeff Clark Surfboards, and Mavericks Surf Shop.

About Airship Ventures Inc.
Airship Ventures flies “Eureka”, a Zeppelin NT airship, around the SF Bay Area for daily sightseeing flights, advertising operations, corporate and event occasions and scientific missions. Aviation and sightseeing enthusiasts now have a new option to take in the sights of Northern California. For the first time in 71 years, a dirigible airship—one of only three Zeppelins in the world—is flying in the U.S. The airship’s cabin affords 360-degree views, accommodates up to 12 passengers, and uses the inert gas helium for lift and vectored thrust engines for flight.

Based out of Moffett Field, the airship also flies out of North Oakland and Monterey.  The Zeppelin NT was built in Germany and then made the transatlantic crossing aboard a container ship. Once on American soil in Texas, the airship began flying its way west with stops in western states, until finally crossing over the Golden Gate Bridge on October 25th, 2008, to begin operations in the Bay Area.
