Video: Cloudbreak - Pacific Pirates, + Kohl... + Hippo...
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 July, 2011 : - - The storm originating in the South Pacific created a massive south swell that brought some of the world's best surfers to surf some of the most amazing waves to ever hit Fiji's Cloudbreak. Some are calling them the best waves to hit Cloudbreak in the last 20 years.
Pacific Pirates: Following on from groundbreaking sessions that went down at Cloudbreak last year in September, chargers paddled into some monster-sized waves. Among them were Bruce Irons, Ryan Hipwood, Mark Healey, Nathan Fletcher and too many more to name. Underground chargers Kohl Christensen, Jeff Rowley, Mikey Brennan and Nick Vasciek also hooked into some bombs. Kelly Slater was so pumped, he skipped the J-Bay contest. This is more a short documentary than a quick web length clip, action kicks off about 7 minutes in. Check out the the monster waves with some of the worlds finest...
Kohl Christensen (below) paddled into an absolute bomb at Cloudbreak during what Kelly Slater called, “The swell of a lifetime.” Kohl endured one of the more brutal wipeouts of the Cloudbreak sessions.
Ryan Hipwood (below) got shacked. Given Hipwood's backside approach and the incredible size of the wave, this ride has instantly become the early favorite for the XXL Ride of the Year award.
