Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 March, 2012 : - - Hi from a hot and humid Snapper Rocks. The first World Tour event for 2012, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, is done and dusted with the top seeds filling all the quarterfinals heats. Guys like Kelly Slater, Owen Wright, Jordy Smith, Joel Parkinson, Josh Kerr and Ace Buchan were all there but it was Taj Burrow who came out on top of Adriano de Souza in a closely fought final.

Taj figures he got one back after de Souza beat him in the final in Brazil last year. The tour rookies weren’t the only ones suffering from nerves with most of the seasoned pros admitting at one time or another during the contest to having New Year jitters.

Looking back over the whole event there were a lot of guys taking to the air for big scores or as they put it ‘you’ve got to spin to win’ but it was also reassuring to see rail to rail moves, big carves and snaps receiving the solid scores they deserved. Check out all the action in this Gallery.
