First video in series features unique and rare big wave gun

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 May, 2012 : - - The Surfing Heritage Vintage Surf Auction presented by Quiksilver Waterman Collection has posted up the first of many auction 'Sneak Peek' videos. Installment number one highlights an exceptionally unique and rare big wave gun that is dripping with provenance, legend and lore. The aptly named Ah-woooo board was shaped by Mickey Munoz with Jeff Johnson for an iconic California waterman, the late Flippy Hoffman.

In 1953 the Capistrano Beach textile executive, along with Bob Simmons, became the first California surfers to rent a house on Sunset Point on Oahu's North Shore. "There were just a few people out there," Hoffman recalled in 1992, in a blunt cadence that helped set the tone for nearly all hard-core big wave surfers.

"We surfed, and we'd sit and we'd argue. Then some guys would come over from Makaha or Honolulu and they'd surf and then leave and we'd stay and sit and argue. Pretty much the same shit surfers are doing today."  In 1975, Hoffman became one of the first surfers to ride Kaena Point, a break regarded at the time as the last frontier of big-wave surfing.* Flippy Hoffman, Mickey Munoz and the Ah-wooo board: California Gold.

"California Gold" is the theme of the Surfing Heritage Vintage Surf Auction presented by Quiksilver Waterman Collection. Surfboards and memorabilia with a California flair from the '20s through the '70s. The Surfing Heritage Auction Advisory Committee has already coalesced a solid selection of "Gold" from various donations and sellers and are actively searching for more. The committee is anticipating between 50 - 60 pristine vintage surfboards for the live auction and at least 40 items for the silent auction.
