Waves of Health Completes Eighth Medical Mission in Dominican Republic

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 May, 2012 : - - Waves of Health, an American nonprofit organization founded by surfing physicians dedicated to supporting community health in underserved regions around the world, conducted their eighth medical mission providing free health care to the community of Dajabón, Dominican Republic in April 2012.
 
The group made a donation of nearly 100 lbs. of new medical supplies and medication to Ricardo Limardo Hospital, the public hospital in Puerto Plata. Jesmarin Puente, Director of the Dominican Surfing Federation (Fedosurf) facilitated the donation on behalf of Waves of Health, which was received with gratitude by the hospital directors and doctors Dr. Rafael Peña Cruz (Medical Director), Dr. Alexis Zaiter (Anesthesia Department), Dr. Pedro Elivo (Directors Assistant), Dr. Elizabeth Cruz, Dr. Sally Pérez, Dr. Alexandra de Jesús, Dr. Bolivia Olivo (General Doctors).
 
Waves of Health is dedicated to bring modern medical care, and working with health care professionals, in developing communities around the world. Their service includes primary care, a diabetes program, surgical and ob/gyn subspecialties in their bi-annual missions to the Dominican Republic. Once the medical mission and hard work are complete, members of the group often visit Playa Encuentro in Cabarete and join of the local surfing community to enjoy an afternoon of good waves and sunshine.
 
The next medical mission is scheduled for November 2012.
