Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 June, 2012 : - - As of Monday morning, EDT, Typhoon Mawar was located near 19.4 degrees north and 125.5 degrees east, or about 500 miles south-southwest of Kadena Air Base, Okinawa. Maximum sustained winds are 110 mph, with gusts to 130 mph, and Mawar was moving to the northeast at 9 mph.
Mawar is expected to continue on a northeasterly track over the next several days, taking the center of circulation just southeast of the Ryukyu Islands on Monday night, EDT. Locally heavy downpours and tropical storm-force wind gusts are possible on Monday night as Mawar approaches. On Tuesday and early Wednesday, the system is expected to weaken slowly as it tracks just south of mainland Japan. Gusty winds and a soaking rain are expected around Tokyo on Tuesday night into early Wednesday, EDT.
