Lisa Andersen inspires finalists at Roxy Waikiki Classic

Roxy Waikiki Classic
Kuhio Beach, Queens Waikiki
16 - 17 June 2012
New generation looks up to four-time women's world champion Lisa Andersen
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 June, 2012 : - - Waikiki proudly welcomed 4X women's world surfing champion Lisa Andersen (Florida) to Kuhio Beach today where she hosted Day 2 festivities of the ROXY Waikiki Classic. Andersen is the global ambassador for both the sport of women's surfing and the ROXY brand - an action sports and fashion apparel brand out of Huntington Beach, California. Lisa's influence on elite level performance as world champion (1994 to 1997), beach fashion, and the positive aspects of the surfing lifestyle made her the perfect host, drawing hundreds of young surfer girls to the beach today.
The women-only ROXY Waikiki Classic provided a venue and an event where young girls, mothers, sisters, aunties and friends could come and celebrate all aspects of surfing. ROXY surfers Kelia Moniz (Hawaii) and Rosy Hodge (South Africa) joined Andersen to share their experience and talk shop: Everything from surfing tips, to competitive strategy, and what opportunities lie within the women's surf industry.
"The whole essence of this event is inspiring the youth to make sure that our sport remains in great hands," said Andersen. "For these girls it's not only about the lifestyle, but about following a dream, whether it be in competition, in fashion, or in roles within the industry. Our goal is to give them a place to prepare for it. We want girls to be able to have a good time, catch a couple waves, or gain career experience, and this is the classic place for it - where surfing began, Waikiki."
Following yesterday's ASP-rated professional longboard event, won by Honolulu's Crystal Dzigas, today was all about enjoying the beach and getting immersed in the waves. Amateur competition in both short- and longboarding divisions offered girls from ages 6-to-60 a place to test the waters.
On the beach, Paul Mitchell offered free hair styling stations with their new Limited Edition SUN line, available at paulmitchell.com. Jamba Juice kept the entire beach crowd hydrated with their latest and greatest fruit blends; and the ROXY Initiative partnered with Kokua Hawaii Foundation with recycling bins and a free water refill stations. Proceeds from water bottle sales went to the Kokua Hawaii Foundation to support their Plastics Free Schools program. Mahalo to all who participated, ensuring a solid future for women's surfing.
