Gold Coast's Morrison Media expands digital presence

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 June, 2012 : - - Following a multitude of successful iPad and iPhone Apps, as well as digital magazine editions through the Zinio distribution platform, Gold Coast based publisher Morrison Media has further embraced the digital domain as they roll out custom-formatted digital editions of all of their titles on the Apple Newsstand.
Now available via two of the world’s biggest digital distribution channels, Zinio and Apple’s Newsstand, Morrison Media’s digital editions are not only an additional platform for readers to connect with their amazing content, but represent considerable added value for advertisers that none of their competitors can lay claim to.
Says General Manager and board sports Publisher Craig Sims, “There is now considerable digital value inherent in our print titles, and this is a significant value proposition in an age where advertisers are so conflicted over their allocation of budgets between print and digital. And we believe this digital component of our print offering will grow exponentially."
Making digital content for tablet or smart phone is not a case of one size fits all. It requires a custom solution, which Morrison Media have developed and are more than satisfied with. The whole user experience is as it should be; surprisingly simple and brilliantly intuitive. Text is legible, navigation makes sense and the pictures are allowed to speak for themselves.
The process begun well before developing custom formats to suit digital devices. “We made changes to the editorial content of our mags, even adjusting the book size, to facilitate the transition from print to digital", said Sims, "and we’ve done this well ahead of our competitors which gives us a great competitive advantage".
This is just another step in a process that begun years ago. Morrison Media has been proactively transforming its products, structures and processes in response to the changing media landscape, and the timing of this particular development is in response to the explosion in sales of digital devices and the consequent growth in sales of digital versions of its print magazines.
Morrison Media's newest launch, White Horses, was the first title to appear on the Apple Newsstand and it was followed closely by Surfing Life with Riptide available in the next week and the balance to follow in order of their production schedules.
