Men's World Longboard Tour and Women's 6-Star Sri Lanka events cancelled, Bear Men's WLT cancelled as well

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 July, 2012 : - - After seven years of successful competition the SriLankan Airlines Pro has unfortunately been cancelled for 2012. The competition ran in the Maldives for the first five years before moving to Sri Lanka. Last year saw a successful combined Men’s WLT and Women’s 6-Star ASP World Tour event held at Sri Lanka’s world-class pointbreak Arugam Bay.

Dane Jordan, ASP Australasia General Manager, although disappointed to see the event go, is grateful to SriLankan Airlines, the Sri Lankan Government and the Arugam Bay local surfers for all of their help and support.

“It’s sad to see such a fantastic event drop off the ASP calendar,” Jordan said. “But SriLankan Airlines are feeling the global economic pressure and their board have decided to end their sponsorship of this event. ASP are extremely grateful to them and everyone involved in the event over the past seven years, we are continuing to look at our options in that part of the world as the waves and people are fantastic.”

Dealing another blow to men's professional longboarding, the Bear World Longboard Championships were cancelled as well leaving 2012 as the year without a men's world longboard champion.
