Nord \ Nordwest Surf Skate Film Festival, Hamburg awards “Fathoms Left to Fall"
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 July, 2012 : - - Northcore are pleased to announce the award of Best International Short film, for their production “Fathoms Left To Fall”, by Nord \ Nordwest Surf Skate Film Festival, Hamburg. “Fathoms Left to Fall”, Directed by Chris McClean and Produced by Gabe Davies was shot during an epic few days during March 2012 at Mullaghmore Head, County Sligo, Ireland when a gigantic Atlantic swell hit the coastline. Some of the waves ridden that day were amongst the largest ever seen, making worldwide headlines as well as XXL nominations.
Northcore spokesman and Executive Producer Matt Strathern said of the award “All of those involved are super stoked that Fathoms has been given this recognition, especially as it was awarded by a public vote. The now famous swell at Mullaghmore was a special event shared with friends and some skilled, ballsy surfers.
Northcore would like to thank Chris, Gabe and Mark for making the film a reality, Ben Howard and Owain Davies for allowing us to use the stunning song “Depth over Distance” for the soundtrack, Richie Fitzgerald Northcore Ambassador for being the man, all the other tow teams in the water that day and of course the Hamburg Film Festival team for selecting and showing our film”
Nord \ Nordwest Surf Skate Film Festival 2012 presented seven art exhibitions, 25 surf and skate films - of which six were world premieres, five European and five German premieres. The first ever Homegrown Shorties Contest featured films out of all North Sea nations (UK, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden) with the jury audience making their decisions by hooting, clapping and stomping.
About 1000 visitors from all over the world attended the opening party, the exhibitions and the screenings throughout three days and nights of surf and skate culture.
