National Trust partners with London Surf Film Festival
National Trust on board as London Surf / Film Festival Environmental Partners
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 July, 2012 : - - The London Surf / Film Festival is proud to announce that the National Trust will once again be Presenting Partners for the London Surf / Film Festival Shorties contest. 'Short films have a strong tradition within modern surf culture; they’re a creative outlet for sharing stories and inspiring stoke,' says Festival Creative Director Demi Taylor.
“As surfers, the environment is integral to our story. The National Trust works hard on our behalf, often behind the scenes, to conserve and protect nearly 10 per cent of our coastline across England, Wales and Northern Ireland so we are thrilled to be working with the charity once again.”
While the main festival is open to all entries, The Shorties short film contest is open exclusively to surf filmmakers from or based in Britain and Ireland. “The Shorties is a way for us to celebrate the short and support the wealth of surf filmmaking talent that is coming from our shores,” says Festival Director Chris Nelson. Until 26th August filmmakers are invited to submit their short films of up to 5 minutes that explore all aspects and angles of surfing and surf culture through documentary, stop-frame, animation or anything in between.
In this competition, it’s not about whether your waves are big or small, it’s about the way you chose to shoot them. Or don’t. After all there’s more than one way to tell a surf story. The best submissions will be selected for screening as part of the 2012 London Surf / Film Festival programme and judged in the category of LS/FF Shortie of the Year by the screening panel, comprised of some of the most influential names in surfing. “It’s a real opportunity for homegrown talents to flex their creative muscles on the world stage,” says Chris Nelson.
“Last year’s winning Shortie ‘Uncommon Ideals’ by Chris McClean and Mark Waters made an impact globally, going on to scoop up numerous awards as well as nominations in both the Surfer Poll and international Vimeo Awards.” For details on how to get involved: londonsurffilmfestival.com
“The National Trust is major provider in the outdoors. It’s not just about being active, it’s about enjoying being surrounded by the natural environment which the Trust provides by the bucket-load” says Dan “Mole” Joel, National Trust Surf Ambassador. “For me there is no better way of enjoying nature than by harnessing Mother Nature herself and enjoying the view from the waves.”
