Simon Farrer claims the Australian Kneeboard Titles Round 2 at Diggers Beach
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 July, 2012 : - - Sydney -- The swell arrived on the east coast of NSW this weekend, bringing with it 6 foot waves for the finals of the Australian Kneeboard Titles at Diggers Beach, Coffs Harbour. Drawing competitors from all corners of the globe, surfers had their work cut out for them across the board.
Stacked with talent was the open men’s, currently seeded world number 1, Simon Farrer (Shell Harbour), consistently surfed his way to the final. Meeting world no.2 Chayne Simpson (Jervis Bay), defending event champion Kyle Bryant (Avoca) and first time finalist Tom Novakov (Narrabeen).
Novokov looked to be on a winner, as the current Cadets world champion surfing in both divisions, knocking his 4XWorld champion father Michael out in the semis and Junior World Champion brother Matt, the family seemed unstoppable. Meeting Farrer, Simpson and Bryant proved tough as the Worlds best Kneeboarders saved their best for finals. Simpson opened up with a few nice manoeuvres in the critical sections of the wave and a nice off the top to set the pace.
Taking a huge drop on one of the biggest waves seen in the competition, Farrer claimed the events only ten-point ride and shot to the lead. Following a big bottom turn with two big reos, launching his board out of the water it was clear he was the one to beat. His phenomenal surfing continued to wow spectators, backing up with an 8.67 (out of a possible 10) and if that wasn’t enough his next wave solidified the win without a doubt.
Paddling into one of the powerful sets that competitors had witnessed all day, Farrer pulled into a barrel and the 9.67 ride gave him the win he deserved. Followed by Simpson in 2nd, Bryant in 3rd and Novakov in 4th. Novakov won the cadets division with Liam Taurins (Newport) in 2nd, Chad Collis (Bendalong) 3rd, Jed Collis (Bendalong) 4th and Cameron Tinsley (Newcastle) 5th.
With the wind up and waves getting bigger competitors went full speed into each final. Amateur A winner Wayne Jennings (Byron Bay) dominated his competitors, Brendan Robson (Sydney) placed 2nd, Jason Harrsion (Gold Coast) 3rd and Darren Cooper (Newcastle) 4th.
Local Jake Hadcroft won the Amateur B division closely followed 2nd: Jed Collins (Bendalong), Cameron Tinsley (Newcastle) and Chad Collis (Bendalong) who placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
