New South Wales names All Stars at Park Beach in Coffs Harbour
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 July, 2012 : - - Coffs Harbour -- The Hurley NSW Junior Surfing State Titles Presented by Vestal Watches moved into Day 2, crowning Matt King and Cali McDonough as ALL STARS School Champions for 2012.
Turning on yet again, Park Beach, Coffs Harbour delivered 6 foot waves for the states best frothing teenagers vying for the prestigious NSW School Titles – The All Stars division took centre stage for the Schools best individual performances.
Matt King (Ulladulla) and James McMoreland (Newcastle), were looking good early, winning their round 1 heats and dominating the semis along with fellow finalists Jordan Lawler (Sydney) and Robbie Rickard (Far North Coast).
Looking to better his 2011 third place result, King came out strong cemented two solid scores early leaving his competitors to play catch up. “It was pretty hard out there, the boys have been getting really high scores the last few days so I had to make sure I picked good waves”.
“I tried to get a couple early and I was lucky enough to find two and lucky that the boys didn’t get a high scoring second wave”, said King of the final which placed James McMoreland (2nd), Jordan Lawler (3rd) and Robbie Rickard (4th).

The under 19 girls saw Sydney pair Sophia Bernard and Alana Patison take on two top surfers from the North; Coco Beeby (Nambucca Heads) and Cali McDonough (St Josephs, Byron Bay).
Wave selection was vital as the big sets coming through caused a run around at Park Beach. Taking a nice right hander, McDonough kicked off with a big bottom turn driving hard and finishing off with two big reo’s to nail a 9.00, the biggest single wave score in the finals.
Mcdonaugh was crowned the 2012 under 19’s girls ALL STARS champion for NSW and will go to the Australian Titles along with Sophia Bernard who placed second.
Riding off the back of yesterdays huge effort was Jeames Young (Maclean High, Far North Coast), topping his Hurley wave of the day from day one, Young nailed a perfect ten in the lead up to the finals of the under 16 boys.
With that on the score board his form continued and a total combined heat score of 16.23 gave him first place in the under 16 boys ALL STARS. Jared Hickel (Sydney) placed a close second with Riley Laing (St Peters, Central Coast) in third and Jackson Baker (St Pius, Newcastle) in fourth.
Holly Wawn was determined to take a first place this year with Sydney team-mate Alysse Cooper by her side in the under 16’s final. Wawn took the crown with Tess Mawson (Ulladulla High, South Coast), Alysse Cooper and Jacinta Greenup (Kingscliff, Far North Coast) in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
