Explore the wave diversity in and around Peniche Portugal with Free Surf Camp

Five kilometres south of Peniche, the ´Portuguese capital of waves´, is the Free Surf Camp. Every surfer, from beginner to experienced, can find a suitable wave to surf in the Peniche region almost any day of the year.

Peniche is considered to be one of the best surf regions in Europe. The peninsula has both a north and south facing coast that are very close to each other. The Peniche area has an impressive amount of breaks within a very short distance.

The long sandy beaches offer excellent conditions for beginners to learn fast, and in a safe way. More experienced surfers find perfect conditions to improve their skills on good sand bank breaks or accessible reef breaks. Peniche has a world class surf break: Supertubos, also known as the European Pipeline. In addition to these waves there are several other breaks where your limits can be tested.

In 2009 Peniche hosted the World |Championship of Surfing, the Rip Curl Pro Search. The organisation and surfers loved what they saw and it was decided that Peniche will be a stop on the World Tour for the coming three years. The world´s best surfers will compete for the title from 7th until 18th October 2010.

Surfing with us

The Free Surf School is certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation, the Portuguese Tourism Board and is part of the Surf School Association of Peniche. All safety regulations are guaranteed. With Free Surf Camp you can count on good quality.

Beginners
We will teach you all the essential basics of surfing, from paddle techniques to standing up and riding waves. You might want to try some curves as well at this stage. We will video your surfing action in the water which will help you to improve faster.

Intermediate
When you already know basics like paddling and taking off on most waves, we will help to improve your position on the board, to choose the right waves and to improve your bottom turn. The video sessions are a helpful tool in this stage.

Advanced
If you already manage to catch green waves and you control your bottom turn, this is the level for you. We will help you to perfect what you already are able to do and teach you how to speed up on the wave in order to make other surf manoeuvres. We also help you improving your wave choice. Video sessions will allow you to make progress rapidly.

If you just wish a ride to the best break of the day and want to have advice about the surf peaks, it´s our pleasure receiving you.

Accommodation
Our surf base is situated in a calm and relaxed setting where you can relax after a day of surf. There is a beautiful garden, a big roof terrace and a watch tower on top of the house from where you can see the whole region.

The house is equipped with all the essentials that you need for a comfortable holiday. There are both shared and individual bed rooms. The kitchen and living room are shared. Our bbq area outside is perfectly right for a good night of food and drinks. The terrace and watchtower offer a beautiful view over the region and its surf breaks.
