Video and Slideshow: Day 5 action and lifestyle from the US Open

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 August, 2012 : - - Wednesday's surfing saw the women take to the water for their final stop of the 2012 ASP World Tour in inconsistent, 1-3 foot surf. The elimination round featured solid surfing and close heats from all the women before things really got going in the next round.

Following a halt in the action at dead high tide, the women got back out in the water for Round 3. Heat 1 featured Courtney Conlogue (USA), who utilized her local knowledge to find the highest single-wave score of the day with a 9.17. Conlogue bypasses Round 4 and currently awaits her next opponent for Friday's Quarterfinals. Also moving straight through to the Quarterfinals were Lakey Peterson (USA), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) and Carissa Moore (HAW).

The men then got back in the water to finish up the last six heats of Round of 48. The first heat in the water saw Gabriel Medina (BRA) get up to his usual above-the-lip antics, as he stuck a handful of impressive air reverses — the best being his signature tail-high air reverse, which he stomped for a 9.07. Other Men's standouts included HB hometown hero, Brett Simpson (USA), Adriano DeSouza (BRA), Patrick Gudauskas (USA) and John John Florence (HAW), who have all earned spots in tomorrow's Round of 24.

The Men's Round of 24 is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9:30am, following the completion of Women's Round 4, which starts Day 6 off at 7:30am.

On tap for Thursday here at the US Open will be the usual surf action, live concerts (featuring Hindu Pirates, White Arrows and Grouplove), autograph signings and interactive brand experience booths courtesy of Nike, Hurley and Converse. We hope to see you down here where the fun will continue until August 5. If you can't make it, tune in live to!
