Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 August, 2012 : - - Huntington Beach, California/USA – The ASP PRIME Nike US Open of Surfing has returned to Huntington Beach Pier for the seventh consecutive day and today’s proceedings are slated to begin with men’s Round of 24 competition before moving into the Women’s Quarterfinals.

The 2012 Nike US Open of Surfing, the sixth of eight ASP Prime rated events on this season’s calendar, has drawn almost the entire ASP WCT field in search of the massive points, heightened prize purse and prestigious Nike US Open of Surfing title and the action has been non-stop from the event’s.

Up first this morning will be Orange County surfers Tanner Gudauskas (San Clemente, CA), 24, against Tim Reyes (Huntington Beach, CA), 30, in the opening Round of 24 heat.

Women's Nike US Open of Surfing Quarterfinals are ON

The Women’s Nike US Open of Surfing, the final installment on the 2012 ASP Women’s WCT, is ON with the Quarterfinals taking to the water in improved two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves.

The Nike US Open of Surfing has seen an array of standout performances from the ASP Top 17 and while Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 24, secured the ASP World Title in France, the battle for requalification campaigns and the rookie of the year award has produced plenty of action at the Nike US Open of Surfing.

“We’re going straight from Men’s Round of 24 competition in to the Women’s Quarterfinals today,” Dave Shipley, ASP Women’s WCT Head Judge said. “We have improved conditions for the girls today and have some exciting Quarterfinals match-ups. Good luck to our competitors.”

Up first will be Courtney Conlogue (USA), 19, against Malia Manuel (HAW), 18, in Quarterfinal No. 1 of the Nike US Open of Surfing.
