Agenda: Business Buzzing, Vendors Growing

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 August, 2012 : - - Once a satellite trade show for skateboard and hip-hop dudes, Agenda solidified its gains as the dominant actionsports and fashion trade show on the West Coast during its recent Aug. 1–2 run at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif.

Agenda grew into a biannual trade show carrying fashion bikinis and consumer electronic vendors, as well as boardshorts and T-shirts designed to outrage parents. The show's current preoccupation is considering how to manage its growth, said show president Aaron Levant. "It is getting big," Levant said of the 9-year-old trade event. "It is the goal of Agenda to keep that organic vibe and not become a corporate show."

The recent show marks the second time Agenda has been produced in the Long Beach Convention Center, located adjacent to the port city's waterfront. At the first Long Beach show, in January, 450 vendors exhibited. There were more than 500 vendors at the recent show, covering nearly every category, ranging from premium denim, men's fashion, underwear, skateboarding sneakers and performance athleticwear to leather jackets to every kind of boardshort to make a splash at the beach.

A broad range of retailers shopped the show. High-profile independent specialty surf shop Jack's Surfboards of Huntington Beach, Calif., sent a delegation of buyers, along with mall-based surf and skate retailers Pacific Sunwear, Zumiez and Tilly's, which currently dominate the market for activewear.
