Finisterre launch wettie line with the help of sheep

Partnership between Finisterre and Snugg forged to create wetsuit that uses wool
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 September, 2012 : - - Something is happening on the cliffs of St Agnes, in a workshop manned by a small crew of people who continue to dream. Nieuwland works is the name that has sparked the interest in many within the wetsuit industry, although the team involved are keeping the project and its doors tightly shut.
"Can we make the best cold water wetsuit in the world?" This is the question at the heart of Nieuwland works. Nieuwland Works is a partnership between Finisterre and Snugg and was created to develop more focus within the area of cold water wetsuit design. Wetsuit design is an area within the surf industry that has become both linear and superficial. Linear in the use of only one type of neoprene for many different cold water environments and superficial in terms of the evolution of wetsuit features.
The team at Nieuwland Works aren't divulging too much, they don't want to say when the suit will be ready to buy, or show any of them to the public. What we did manage to find out is their dedication to making things better, whether that be functionally or environmentally. Not one to just sit on a good thing, Finisterre have searched beyond a successful range of Merino wool Base Layers to find an alternative fabric closer to home "we have a handle on one of the rarest sheep breeds in the world and this little British Bowmont flock punts out one hell of a fine yarn that is built to keep the cold at bay", said Marketing Director Ernest Capbert. Which leaves us naturally assuming that the boys and girls over at Nieuwland Works may have a little plan with their Bowmont wool and the wetsuit.
"Do we really need to make wetsuits in far away places and with Merino wool that has to be shipped from the other side of the world? We don't think so" remarked Capbert.
Said Tom Kay, Finisterre's founder: "We believe that we can make the best cold water wetsuit in the world and right here in the UK and with some of our Bowmont wool, which is a British sheep breed, makes me proud thinking about it," .
