Euro surf industry gets new Basque business centre

Industry Updates
OLATU, a one of a kind business centre in Europe | française
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 September, 2012 : - - The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bayonne Pays Basque is proud to inaugurate OLATU (wave in Basque language) a business centre entirely dedicated to welcoming companies that develop industries and services in the boardsports industry. With 2250 m², the OLATU premises includes leasable office space with optional premium services as well as a business incubator, conference rooms and a restaurant.
Located within Baia Park where Volcom relocated their head offices in 2009, the building is all HQE certified and has the BBC-Effinergie label, which guarantees its quality and eco-friendliness. The premises are exceptionally well located, only a few minutes away from Anglet surf spots and within easy access to major communication and transportation lines.
Young companies and entrepreneurs will have access to shared services at reduced rates (meeting rooms, showrooms, office equipment, corporate daycare), as well as assistance from ESTIA-Entreprendre, similarly to companies in the Izarbel Technopole in Bidart, which specializes in new technologies and communications.
ASPOM, NAPCO, SKINS, and SUGARSTUDIO are the first four companies to relocate to OLATU, along with the EuroSIMA Cluster, which continues its efforts towards developing the boardsports industry in the Aquitaine region.
“Having been one of the initiators of this project alongside the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bayonne Pays Basque, EuroSIMA is proud to see the OLATU business centre open its doors and offer a platform of services to small and midsize companies of the boardsports industry. It is a first in Europe, and we are thrilled that such an initiative was born on the Basque coast, the birthplace of European surfing.
In the current difficult economic context, such a project of shared services is all the more valuable. I am convinced that it will help boost our industry and I hope that new companies will see the light of day in the next few years.” adds Frédéric BASSE, President of EuroSIMA and Managing Director of Rip Curl Europe. The cost of OLATU reaching roughly 6.5 million Euros was co-financed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bayonne Pays Basque, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the State of France, the Regional Council of Aquitaine and the General Council of Pyrénées-Atlantiques within the framework of the 2008 Pays Basque Territorial Contract.
The official inauguration of OLATU will be held on Tuesday September 25th 2012 at 5pm, in the presence of: André GARRETA, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bayonne Pays Basque, Michel DELPUECH, Prefect of the Aquitaine Region, Alain ROUSSET, President of the Regional Council of Aquitaine, Georges LABAZEE, Senator-President of the General Council of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Alain LAMASSOURE, Member of the European Parliament, Frédéric BASSE, President of EuroSIMA and Managing Director of Rip Curl Europe.
