Maili Masters Surf Rally

Rainbow Bay, Gold Coast Australia

Jen Steen earns "the surfer having the most fun" award

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 September, 2012 : - - Well Huey smiled on us for the running of the 5th Maili Masters Longboard Rally. Made to order waves from 1/2 to 3/4 metre were fanned by light offshore winds most of the weekend. A far cry from last weeks howling northerlies that have dominated the Goldie for the last month or so. Friday night a small crew of competitors and sponsors gathered for a meet & greet on the 8th floor of Maili Skyhomes for the welcome. Awesome apartment right in Rainbow Bay.

Saturday saw the surfing kick off with a new get to surf against anyone format that saw competitors surf against competitors in other age divisions. The waves were contestable with some outstanding surfing. That night it was to the Rainbow Bay SLSC for dinner & then Dave Fraser the Karaoke King from Bondi got the entertainment happening.

Sunday and the waves were slightly bigger and the surfing slightly better. Congrats to the winners especially Jen Steen "the surfer having the most fun", Trevor Williams "Sportsmanship", Claw "Best Wipeout" and then trying to tell us it was a traditional surfing manouvre from the 60's. The best "Hang Ten" went to Hayden and Doug Andrew the best "Hang 5".
