Jacksonville to host event with $30,000 in cash prizes
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 September, 2012 : - - The Florida Surfing Championships will be taking place October 4-7th in Jacksonville Beach, FL on the south side of the Jacksonville Beach Pier. The championships will bring together professional and amateur surfing for the chance to win over $30,000 in cash and prizes provided by House of Marley, Goal Zero, Flomotion, Salt Life and Viridian. The Goal Zero Pro features a purse of $10,000 alone. In addition to the four-day surfing championship series, a Sea Walk Celebration will take place on Saturday, October 6th at the Sea Walk Pavilion.
The Sea Walk Celebration will be a way for families, friends and community members to come together for this eco-friendly event and celebrate the culmination of beach life, board sports and culture. From 11:00am-10:00pm, the celebration will include live music, beer, food, surfing, Open Water SUP and Kayak Challenge, surf art show, eco-village and Grom Zone. Along with Pro/Am surfing starting at 8:00am, the day will kick off with an Open Water SUP and Kayak Challenge on the North Side of Jacksonville Beach Pier starting at 9:00am. The Challenge is being produced by First Coast Outfitters and benefits the North Florida Land Trust.
Music will begin at 12:00pm at the Sea Walk Pavilion featuring multiple local and regional bands with the evening being capped by a unique performance by reggae legends, The Wailers, who will be celebrating their 20th anniversary. Beer and wine will be for sale in the park, along with an array of food trucks and food vendors, giving a local taste of North Florida.
Children are invited to let out their inner “grom” at the Grom Zone, presented by Home Depot featuring various inflatables, face painting, games and educational activities. Alongside the Grom Zone, parents will find an eco-village featuring various “green” vendors displaying ways to be more eco-friendly and raising awareness about their causes.
The surf art show, located across from the eco-village, will include thirty artists from the local community and southeast region of the country. Items will include jewelry, paintings, sustainable apparel, eco-friendly art, and other mediums. This display of talented artisans will bring an atmosphere of beauty and culture to the beaches.
The celebration doesn’t end after The Wailers set; Eoto will take the stage at Free Bird on Saturday night immediately following the Seawalk Celebration. Sunday, October 7th will finish off the weekend with Pro/Am surfing finals and Surf and Sun 5K, managed by 1st Place Sports, and sponsored by 5-Hour Energy, 26.2 with Donna, Garmin, House of Marley and Maui Jim. Both events will be taking place on the South Side of Jacksonville Beach Pier.
