NSSA Southeast/North Open, Explorer and College #1 events run and done
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 September, 2012 : - - The NSSA Southeast/North Conference was blessed with the hurricane swell providing great waves and beautiful weather for the 2012-13 season opener at New Smyrna Beach Inlet. We had two double winners for the day with Noah Schweizer getting the highest heat score of the day in his Explorer Juniors heat posting an excellent two-wave combined total of 16.0. Noah also came out strong in the prestigious Open Mens division taking the victory. The other double winner of the event was Robbie McCormick who won both the Open Boys and Explorer Menehuene divisions.
Evan Brownell, who was our 2012 conference champion, is looking solid again taking 1st place in the Super Groms. Last season’s Most Improved Surfer Cobie Gittner came out swinging scoring a big victory in the Open Juniors. Matthew Glenn came out strong claiming the Explorer Boys win. Kaleb Kirschenbaum ripped some high scores in the Mini Grom final sealing his first victory of the season. 2012 NSSA East Coast Champion Corey Howell claimed victory in the Explorer Mens. Dylan Prestwood scored the only perfect 10 of the event taking command of the Explorer Longboard final.
Newcomer Kara Brown took her first NSSA win in the Explorer Womens while another newbie Sydney Herring surfed impressively in her first NSSA contest claiming a big win in the prestigious Open Women’s category. Charlie Hajek pulled off his first win of the season taking the Super Seniors. And the Southeast/North Conference welcomes back Eric Worley who returned to NSSA competition after a 10 year absence and scored the Masters victory!
This was a great event we look forward seeing everyone back at New Smyrna Beach Inlet for Open and Explorer event #2 on October 6, 2012. The 2012-13 NSSA East and West coast competition season competition is proudly presented by Nike.

NSSA Southeast/North College Event #1
The first stop of the 2012/13 Southeast/North College event series went off on Sunday, September 9 at New Smyrna Beach Inlet. The waves will still pumping from the hurricane swell and the college surfers were taking advantage of the great contest conditions. After several years of winless seasons, the University of Central Florida team found itself back to the top of the podium taking a sweet victory over FIT.
The former perennial East Coast Champs triumphed on the strength of two first place finishes by team members Tyler Lawrence in the College Men’s final and Connie Arias in the College Women’s. FIT’s Longboard dominator Will Cole continued his winning tear in the College Longboard division taking the victory. The last time the University of Central Florida claimed the conference title was in the 2003/04 season. The last time they won a Regional title was at the 2004 East Coast Championships. Could the UCF team resurge and stage an exciting comeback championship campaign? Stay tuned for the next College event on October 7th at New Smyrna Beach Inlet!
