American Pro Surfing Series lights up the pier with second event of three-event series

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 September, 2012 : - - Event #2 of the American Pro Surfing Series (APSS) will hit the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier, Sept. 27-30. The non-ASP sanctioned trifecta series kicked off with event #1 at the end of April and will host its third and final event in early November. Created by industry veteran Scott Waring, the contest harkens back to a time when the homegrown surf series reigned supreme in the U.S., and offers an opportunity for domestic surfers to compete in their own country.

A tempting prize purse and local bragging rights helped secure a bevy of the country’s most esteemed surfers for the first event where Chris Ward (San Clemente) earned first place followed by Torrey Meister (San Diego) in second, Kilian Garland (Santa Barbara) in third, and Gabe Kling (Saint Augustine, Fla) in fourth.

In the women’s division at event #1, Erica Hosseini (Newport Beach) earned the top spot followed by Meah Collins (Costa Mesa) in second, Anastasia Ashley (Malibu) in third, and Kulia Doherty (Rancho Santa Fe) in fourth.

Chris Ward, Chris Waring (Seal Beach), Torrey Meister, Cory Arrambide (Ventura), Kalani Robb (San Clemente), Colin Moran (Costa Mesa), Teddy Navarro (Huntington Beach), Matt Pagan (Hermosa Beach) and Brad Ettinger (Huntington Beach) are just a few of the talented pool of men confirmed for event #2. On the ladies side legendary Women’s World Champ Lisa Andersen (Huntington Beach), Erica Hosseini, Anastasia Ashley and Meah Collins are registered.

The contest format is four-man heats with 50 percent elimination, starting with 64 men and 20 women.  All surfers, except the ASP Top 34 World Title athletes, are welcome to enter and registration is still open at AmericanProSurfingSeries.com/registration/ Follow the APSS live action webcast online at AmericanProSurfingSeries.com.  For all the latest news and information follow on Twitter and Facebook as well.
