Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 September, 2012 : - - We love Hurricanes on the East Coast!  Tropical Storm Leslie stayed offshore providing a nice long-term swell and waves in the 4-6 foot range for the weekend. Early heats proved surfers were showing signs of struggling with closeout sets until the Open Women’s division took to the water and turned the entire event around. Outstanding performances by Nikki Viesins, Emily Ruppert and Leah Taylor showed the boys a thing or two and for the remainder of the day surfers stepped up their game.

Double division winner Luke Marks who posted high scores taking out Open Junior and Explorer Boys welcomed his Dad, Darren Marks to his first ever NSSA contest who ended up with the Explorer Super Seniors top spot. Luke’s younger sister Caroline Marks posted up the win for Explorer Girls and followed it up with a second place in the Open Girls to singing & surfing sensation Izzy Gomez. Iron grom Tommy Coleman took out the Explorer Menehuene and Super Grom divisions while Noah Dovin captured the top spot in the Open Mini Grom final. Most impressive up-and-comer Jonathan Wallhauser really stepped it up and took charge winning the Open Boys final!

Tropical Storm Leslie continued to provide waves with a little added wind on Sunday for Contest number 4 and surfers were stoked on another day of great conditions. Brothers Wiley and Chauncey Robinson were in solid form taking out the Open Mens and Open Juniors divisions and Noah Dovin repeated his win in the Open Mini Groms. Chris ODonnell took out the Explorer Boys final and Alec Zappone came away with the first place win in Explorer Mens. 

The 2012-13 NSSA East and West coast competition season competition is proudly presented by Nike. Special thanks to conference sponsors, Aerial7 and Dizm eyewear, judges, parents and of course Mother Nature for a great NSSA weekend in the Southeast.
