Dakine finds new digs in (Da) Hood River Oregon
Dakine Moving to New Headquarters
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 September, 2012 : - - Dakine will move its headquarters from Columbia Street in downtown Hood River, OR to a new building (shown to the right) at 603 Portway Avenue, in the Port of Hood River’s Waterfront Business Park, according to Key Development Corporation, which is developing the park. Dakine will occupy over 50 percent of a new 45,000-square foot building currently under construction. The company is expected to take occupancy in Spring 2013. Upon completion, Key Development has an agreement to transfer ownership of the building to Parkside Lands, LLC.
Key Development collaborated with Parkside Lands, LLC, Dakine and the Port of Hood River in order to reach the agreement.
“We are happy to have worked with Dakine and Parkside Lands, LLC to find the perfect new space in Hood River for their expanding headquarters,” said Jeff Pickhardt of Key Development. “Dakine is an iconic Hood River company that has been a great local economic engine for 25 years, and we’re thrilled that they are the newest residents of the growing Port of Hood River Waterfront Business Park.”
“Dakine is built on a deep dedication to quality and innovation across a unique multi-sport platform. Hood River is the center of action sports in Oregon, with incredible proximity to world-class windsurfing, kiteboarding, snowboarding, skiing and mountain biking. Having our headquarters here lets us maintain our competitive edge by giving the product development team a demanding all-terrain environment for developing and testing products,” said Francois Carrete, President of Dakine. “We’re very appreciative of the team effort made to help us find our next home in Hood River, and we are looking forward to the move.”
Determining a new home for the company required collaboration among the Port of Hood River, Andy von Flotow of Parkside Lands, LLC and Dakine. To accommodate Dakine’s employee parking needs, the Port has agreed that the company may utilize parking spaces of the adjoining lot. Parkside Lands, LLC adjusted its plan for the use of the building, which was originally intended to house Hood Tech or a subsidiary, in order to accommodate Dakine’s space needs.
“Dakine is both a worldwide leader in the outdoor gear industry and an important local company with a long history of success. It is the ideal fit for the Hood River Waterfront, and we applaud the public/private partnership that has retained Dakine in this community,” said Michael McElwee, executive director of the Port of Hood River.
Key Development has been working with the Port of Hood River since October 2011, when they entered into three Disposition and Development Agreements for Waterfront Business Park. The new 46,000-square foot processing facility for Turtle Island Foods is nearing completion, and the remodel of the former United Telephone Building was completed last month.
The Port of Hood River originally sold the properties to Key Development based on the terms of Disposition and Development Agreements that defined numerous development and job creation goals.
