British Longboard Union Event #3

British Longboard Union
Watering Hole, Perranporth UK
15 - 16 September 2012

Testing conditions prohibit some competitors from making it out the back

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 September, 2012 : - - The postponed BLU #3  of the 2012 series was held this last weekend under blue sky’s and, would you believe, a solid head high to overhead wave at the Watering Hole, Perranporth. Nervousness among the organisers regarding the Juniors entering such conditions meant the Contest Director took the brave decision to send the…. Ladies in! This so they could avoid the notorious shore break at Perranporth.

So a shaky start in the first heat with only Grace Davies managing to get out back set the scene for the early part of the day with 10 minute paddle out time allocated for heat changeovers rather than the usual 5 minutes. Conditions moderated during the day to end in the afternoon on a manageable 3-4 ft by the time the junior divisions finals came round.
Some great surfing was to be had during the day but some shock results resulting from the  difficult conditions where sets came at irregular intervals.

With a lot of the Juniors attending the European Junior surf championships in Lacanau, France. The contest was run off in one day due to only a total of 52 surfers attending, but for the first time, the number of Ladies entering matching the numbers of men in the Open division.

The results being that for the final event next weekend at Gwithian, there are a possible three divisions where draws are likely – especially an interesting one between Adam Griffiths and Ben Skinner as Adam Griffiths took first place in the final with Ben Skinner second.Angus Murray got to his first Final to finish third followed up by up and coming Jersey boy, Josh Le Marquand.  Last years Open Champion, Ben Haworth,  suffering from a first round exit in his heat due to a weaver fish sting so opening up the field for the last event.
