New format consists of an invited 100 elite male and female surfers
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 September, 2012 : - - Surfers aged 16-years and younger can look forward to a new look Teenage Rampage presented by Ocean & Earth event, early in 2013. Kicking off from the 18th to the 20th of January 2013, the former series has now been compressed and fine-tuned into an elite, invite-only event that will run at Maroubra, NSW during the summer school holidays.
The new format will consist of an invited 100 elite male and female surfers who have displayed results across their respective state titles as well as the 2011 Teenage Rampage series. An international flare of competitors will also be invited as wildcards to complete the field. Former World Tour surfer Phil McDonald, along with Surfing NSW will hand select 82 of these competitors. The remaining 18 surfers will be selected through a trials event, which will kick off competition on Friday the 18th of January.
All surfers need to stay tuned to surfingnsw.com.au in the coming weeks for more information on how you can enter the trials. Surfing NSW CEO, Mark Windon stated, “Surfing NSW are excited to see the Teenage Rampage presented by Ocean & Earth kicking off the elite junior event calendar for 2013. Over the years the Teenage Rampage events have become an integral part of the surfing calendar for young surfers and we think this polished format will add a fresh and exciting layer of prestige to an already great event.”
The Teenage Rampage presented by Ocean & Earth will replicate the divisions which have been used over the years; 16 & under boys, 16 & under girls, 13 & under boys and finally 13 & under girls. All surfers in the main event will have the opportunity to surf twice. Their scores will then be tallied and finalists will be determined accordingly.
Wombat’s Happy Hour of activities will be running throughout the three days with a bunch of giveaways, prizes and crazy fun for all competitors.
